IV. CHAPTER I
The problem and its background

Coming grade 11 students may not have their solid decision on what track they would go in senior high school. Some of them are going to enter higher level in education haven’t any plans or decisions. This study is about the possible factors affecting the student’s level of interest toward their chosen track for senior high school. Many students who are in their senior year in high school choose tracks that are related to their dream programs. They already choose tracks that can help for their college preparation. This time, the department of education implemented to junior high school students to enter in the senior high school with properly selected academic track while other colleges and universities will be offering other tracks based on the approval of the Department of Education. The choice of career of the students is being influenced by some factors from the social environment, mainly the parents as immediate family who plays an active role in choosing the right education for their children.

The Philippines is undergoing a major overhaul to bring it in line with education systems worldwide, starting with the K-12 sector. This change to domestic education policy has far-reaching consequences and is important for international educational institutions to consider when looking for potential new student recruitment markets. With the new 12-year curriculum in place, future Filipino students will be ready and better equipped to join overseas universities at the undergraduate level. And with a K-12 student population of 20.67 million, which will only increase over the next 20 years, the Philippines is shaping up to be an attractive recruitment destination.
In the Philippines, we have different tracks that we can choose for? Academic tracks: Choosing this track means you are looking forward to go to college. This track will help you prepare yourself for the subject specialization of the college course you will take in the future. You have four strands in this track to choose from: General Academic Strand (GAS) While the other strands are career-specific, the General Academic Strand is great for students who are still undecided on which track to take. You can choose electives from the different academic strands under this track. These subjects include Humanities, Social Sciences, Applied Economics, Organization and Management, and Disaster Preparedness. According to edukasyon.ph 327,081students in the highest senior high enrolment in the Academic track. As of September 2016. Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Strand the HUMMS strand is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people. This is for those who are considering taking up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college. If you take this strand, you could be looking forward to becoming a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a social worker, or a reporter someday. This strand focuses on improving your communication skills. Oh! And priesthood is a choice in here too! Next is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Strand are intertwining disciplines when applied in the real world. The difference of the STEM curriculum with the other strands and tracks is the focus on advanced concepts and topics. Under the track, you can become a pilot, an architect, an astrophysicist, a biologist, a chemist, an engineer, a dentist, a nutritionist, a nurse, a doctor, and a lot more. Those who are also interested in Marine Engineering should take this track. Last is Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) strand would focus on the basic concepts of financial management, business management, corporate operations, and all things that are accounted for. ABM can also lead you to careers on management and accounting which could be sales manager, human resources, marketing director, project officer, bookkeeper, accounting clerk, internal auditor, and a lot more.

Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track If you are really not sure if you will be able to pursue any degree after Senior High or if you want to earn money immediately after graduation, then this track is for you. Even without college, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood track will equip you with job-ready skills in the future. This track also invests primarily on skills that can gain you requisite COCs (Certificates of Competency) and NCs (National Certifications) which would be essential when looking for better career opportunities in agriculture, electronics, and trade. This is also important when applying abroad where the skills you gain would prepare you as you join the workforce. Also, according to the Department of Education, the TVL specializations may be taken between Grades 9 to 12. Exploratory Subjects at 40 hours per quarter are taken during Grades 7 to 8. Just like in the Academic Track, there are four strands you can choose from to make sure that you will go with your right fit.? Agri-Fishery Arts Strand, Home Economics Strand, Industrial Arts Strand, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Strand.

The Sports Track aims to give you understanding of the basic principles and techniques in relation to physical education and recreation. It will also offer you discuss various factors that affect social, psychological, and cognitive development in sports leadership and management. Professions that are related in this track are fitness trainers, game officials, tournament manager, recreation attendant, masseur, or gym instructor.

The arts & Design track will prepare you as you wander around the design, performative, and creative industry. What this track aims is to get you a career in the creative field after you graduate. Breaking the stereotype that is there no careers in this industry, you’ll be surprised how fun the Arts and Design world can be. To instill the right employment skills so that you can get a job immediately after graduation, part of the curriculum of this track is to expose you to various form of media such as architecture, interior design, industrial design, graphic design, animation, painting, fashion design, photography, and film. his track is for those who are interested in pursuing careers on the performative and creative field. Get to discover your capabilities and stretch what you can do in industries of music, theatre, visual arts, media arts, and dance. You can gain various skills such as song composing, stage performing, illustrating, sculpting, photography, or choreography under this track.

Arts and Design also aims not only to ensure that you can get a livelihood out of your interest in arts and design but also to help various regions in the country in preserving their local culture.

Significance of the study
This study aims to possible factors affecting the student’s level of interest toward their chosen track for all the senior high school students of Mother of Perpetual Help School.
Future researchers
To the future researchers who are interested to create a thesis about to education, I highly recommend this topic research to you especially when you are a senior high school student like me because as a SHS student, this research help me to expand my knowledge on why our classmates, friends, and family chose different strands and could it help them to prepare for their college degree programs.

Students
This study would surely give you students to choose your preferred strand that are related to your dream degree programs. This topic will give you some ideas on the contents of your preferred strand specially to the grade 10 junior high school students.

Parents
The researcher wants to give ideas to all the parents out there to help their child to choose the right strand and let their child to have freedom to decide for that specific strand they want to.

Spady’s explanatory model of the dropout process. Spady’s proposed Durkheimian model both implies temporal order and depicts the assumed direct causal connections between pairs of variables. Unlike other connections in the model, the arrow from grade performance to dropout decision is direct and implies an absolute condition. This path represents those students who are dismissed from academia due to failure or low academic performance. In this case, institutional policy overrides the theoretical pattern of the model. The broken arrow from institutional commitment back to normative congruence is also different from the others in that it represents a cyclical and flexible pattern rather than an unchangeable path. Statement of the problem
This study aims to determine the following questions that can to the study:
What are the possible effects of academic tracks to a senior high school student?
Why do they need to have a right decision for their chosen strand?
How can academic tracks or strand affect the students’ interest in his chosen path?
What should every parent do in terms of their child’s decision and performance in school?
What’s the impact of chosen school in every senior high student’s interest?
Hypothesis
The following guides the researchers to answer the program stated above:
Objectives:
The students are going to increases their performances in terms of academics, their interest on what they are doing may also increase because its their own decision to love on what they are doing.

Having the right decision in your chosen track has a big help especially when it is now related to our dream degree courses. Our chosen strand gives us more idea and time to think and decide for the right courses we wanted. They should also think and choose for them not to have any regret at the end of their decision.
Like what I’ve said it help every students to be more productive in every activities they have in school. Our laziness will decrease because we choose what we love and our interest is always there.

Every parent should help their children to think twice for their chosen strand. They should also support what decision their children does.

Students will be dynamic in their academic performances because it’s their own choice to choose the right schools for them and their chosen track.

This study can help everyone to have an additional knowledge about factors affecting the students’ level of nterest toward their chosen track in senior high school.

Null: This study doesn’t give students additional knowledge about the factors affecting the students’ level of nterest toward their chosen track in senior high school.

Definition of terms
Track: Continues line or path.

Specialization: the process of concentrating on and becoming expert in a particular subject or skill.

Education: the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university.

Degree program: a course of study leading to an academic degree.

School: an institution for educating children
Scope and Delimitation
This study is investigating regarding the factors that can possibly affect the interst of every students depending with the strand that they are taking for senior high school. The researcher is aiming to know the possible factors of the chosen track to a students’ efficiency in Mother of Perpetual Help School, Inc. of Academic Year 2018-2019.
