“If to “Treat others the same way you want

    “If you
help others, they will help you back.” As a result of not being helped back, most
people choose not to help. You should not
expect something in return; your purpose should be to lessen another person’s
misery. Helping others should be sincere and done from the
heart.

The section that stood out the most to me was the article by Elizabeth West,
“Comparing Buddhism’s Noble eightfold path and Jesus’s beatitudes”. Every religion’s main focus is to educate us to be
better people and to avoid living a lavish life while thousands of people are suffering.
Others feel that it is wrong to be happy when there is so much suffering in the
world. This is the type of mind set we should have in our everyday life.

Both Christianity and
Buddhism acknowledge the reality of suffering. In Buddhism, its stated to “Consider
others as yourself”, and in Christianity it is stated to “Treat others the
same way you want them to treat you.” It also states, “You shall love
your neighbor as yourself.”

Buddhism’s
Four Noble Truths and Noble Eightfold Path are composed almost entirely of
elements. “Hard it is to understand: By giving away
our food, we get more strength; by bestowing clothing on others, we gain more
beauty; by founding abodes of purity and truth, we acquire great treasures”. While
the Bible states, “Remember this: Each man should give what he has decided in
his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a
cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in
all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every
good work.” These two quotes are from two different religions but you can see
how both of them have the same intentions.
The part that stood out the most to me in this article
was when she stated, “The Buddha and his followers today are not interested
in converting people to their religion, but rather in offering all the ways
they can help humankind grow in happiness and well-being and so bring in the
world those qualities Jesus laid out in the beatitudes”.  You see so many religions trying to convert people
to their religion. For example: when I went to university of north Georgia
for a tour there was a Christian man screaming that people should join Christianity
because it is the best religion. No one should be forced into a religion that
way. This quote was very sincere and I truly felt it in my heart. I love how their
sole intent is to make the world better, even if it is through another
religion.
 Because every
religion talks about poverty, there shouldn’t be anyone that is unknowledgeable
about helping the poor. As every religion’s main focus is emphasizing that it
is more blessed to give than to receive.
